Warehouse Worker #12: Company offers 3 days extra sick leave to NDU members only

NDU Bargaining Update

• The National Distribution Union bargaining team has agreed to recommend The Warehouse’s latest bargaining offer.
• The union and company met for the 9th day of bargaining on December 21.
• The parties agreed to meet following a new offer by The Warehouse just as the union was planning a day of action, which was postponed.
• The union’s bargaining team has agreed to take the company’s offer back to union members and is recommending workers vote to accept it.
• Every NDU member has the right to vote for or against the company’s offer.

All NDU action has been postponed

Dear union members,

All NDU action, including leafletting and this Saturday's action has been postponed.

As a result of the actions taken by members around the country and this Saturday's planned action the company has made a new NDU-offer.

The NDU national bargaining team will be meeting on Monday to discuss the offer.

All union members will have a vote at a store meeting before any offer is ratified (accepted).

Yours,
Simon Oosterman
NDU Warehouse Organiser

URGENT BARGAINING UPDATE: Warehouse bargaining breaks down

From our press release:

The union's bargaining campaign will resume as a result of a breakdown in mediated talks between The Warehouse and the National Distribution Union.

NDU Warehouse organiser Simon Oosterman says the company has offered no compensation for huge workloads being undertaken by workers.

“The company says it is worried about the cost of workload compensation but what the workers are asking will cost around half the Warehouse CEO’s bonus,” he says.

The $8 million profit announced by the Warehouse is in stark contrast to the company’s attempts to give its workers New Zealand’s worst retail employment agreement says the National Distribution Union.

The Warehouse Group combined operating profits for the Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery increased by 5.3% but this was pulled down by the stationery division.

UNION SAVES 30 MINS PAY FOR STAFF WORKING 4-6 HOURS

Staff working between 4-6 hours at The Warehouse can thank their union co-workers for helping saving 30 minutes of their pay.

New break legislation which came into effect on April 1 guarantees breaks for industries and workplaces without a union for the first time in 10 years.

The new legislation includes an additional 30 minutes unpaid break for workers rostered between 4 and up to 6 hours.

We joined because the WPU and the company didn't listen to us. When we organised in the NDU, they started to listen and we now have a louder voice at work.
